Allan G. Dowler, 77, of Liberty, died Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at Reid Hospital, Richmond.
Allan was born in Continental, Ohio, October 9, 1935 to Leroy and Kathryn Goddard Dowler and was a 1956 graduate of Continental High School. On October 6, 1956, he was married in Kalida, Ohio to the former Mary Elizabeth Plescher. Allan retired in 1999 from Southside River Rail in Cincinnati, Ohio. He previously had built and managed fertilizer manufacturing plants for Mid-Ohio Farm Service in Mt. Sterling, Ohio and Kaiser Agricultural Chemicals in Liberty. Allan had also been employed at Liberty Mills, Tekon Farm Service in Tekonsha, Michigan and Central State Seed and its predecessor, Lima Seed Company in Lima, Ohio. Allan was an avid race car driver for many years racing dirt tracks in northern Ohio. He enjoyed boating on the weekends with his family, traveling and watching his grandchildren play sports.
Allan is survived by his wife of 56 years; his children and their spouses: Deborah Ann Dowler Bickford and Jerry of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, Carl L. Dowler and Melissa of Oxford, Ohio, Denise Marie Dowler Fritz and Fred of Cincinnati, Ohio; his grandchildren: Allan Philip Dowler, Ashley Cecilia Dowler and Lillian Jane Fritz; his brother: Gary Dowler and his wife, Josie of Vera Beach, Florida; nieces and nephews: Nick Kessler, Rosalie Miller, Valerie Heitzman, Beth Kaufman, Jill Youngpeter, Kara Zimmerly, Erin Tiell and Lisa Langhals.
In addition to his parents, Allan was preceded in death by his sister: Carol Dowler Kessler.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel, Liberty. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 11 to 2 p.m. Saturday where memorial contributions may be made to Adopt A Dog Fund in Liberty.
