Allen Harrison, Jr., 84, of Connersville, died Sunday morning, August 17, 2014, at his residence.
A native of McKee, Jackson County, Kentucky, Allen was the son of Allen, Sr. and Dema Lainhart Harrison, born March 2, 1930. He attended elementary school in McKee, Kentucky and graduated from high school in 1949 in Rossville Georgia. Allen attended Eastern Kentucky State College in Richmond, Kentucky where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1954 and earned a Master of Arts degree in 1962. He was a U.S. Army veteran stationed in Schweinfurt, Germany during the Korean War. For twenty years, Allen taught elementary school in Jackson County, Kentucky and later in Cincinnati and Adams County, Ohio for seven years. He was employed at Northside Liquors in Connersville after retiring.
Allen is survived by his siblings and their spouses: Burnard Harrison and Carolyn, Elmo Harrison and Mertha, all of Connersville; Lois McKinney and Lloyd of Annville, Kentucky; several nephews and nieces, including, Dema Baker and her husband, John of Charlottesville.
In addition to his parents, Allen was preceded in death by four sisters: Allie Harrison, Vera Gross, Dora Lee Whalen, Jackie Ailene Gay; and five brothers: Charles, Edward, Freddie Lee, Everett and Lincoln Harrison.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, with Rev. Ronnie Steele officiating. Interment will be in Dale Cemetery.
