Alma Stanley

Alma Throop Stanley, 82, of Connersville, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, November 9, 2017 at Ambassador Healthcare, Centerville. Alma was born April 27, 1935 in Tell City, Indiana to Floyd and Venetia Sandage Throop. On November 24, 1971, she married William B. Stanley in Connersville, who died July 15, 1990. Alma was a dedicated homemaker and found pleasure in providing a home cooked meal for her family. Although she leaves behind several recipes worth remembering, Alma never missed an opportunity to go out to eat or go dancing at the American Legion. She absolutely loved traveling to “Little Nashville” and was an avid country music fan. Alma is survived by her long-time companion: Donald L. Orschell of Connersville; her children and their spouses: Nancy Watson and Mike of Plainfield; Barbara Mills and Dan of Glencoe, Kentucky; Debra Sherwood and Reverend Eric of Connersville; Richard Throop of Mitchell, South Dakota; Brian Stanley of Greensburg; her grandchildren: Brandy Wood; Tara Cummins; Clinton Mills; Brandon Mills; Joe Kalkhoff; Zacheriah Throop; Navaeh Throop; Elijah Throop; Noah Throop; Alantra Throop; Alexis Stanley; Morgan Stanley; Brenden Stanley; six great-grandchildren; her siblings: Jean Throop of Connersville; Mary Smith of Cambridge City; Bill Throop and Edith of Milton; Kay Mason of Richmond; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband, William B. Stanley; Alma is preceded in death by her siblings: David, Arthur and Roy Throop; her nephew: JW Throop; her niece: Vickie Lynn Smith Snyder; brother-in-law: Earl Smith, Sr. and her grandson-in-law: Christopher Wood. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville with Alma’s son-in-law, Rev. Eric Sherwood, officiating. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery, Garden of Memories. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 11 until the time of service, Wednesday where memorial contributions may be made to Indiana Alzheimer Disease Center.
