Arlus “Mac” McGowan, 87, of Liberty, died Sunday, February 7, 2016, at Rosebud Village in Richmond.
Arlus was born in Jamestown, Kentucky, on January 22, 1929, to Everett Lee and Elizabeth Kennet McGowan. He owned and operated McGowan trucking for many years, Arlus attended The Church of God and Peace Lutheran Church in Connersville. He enjoyed trucking, money and “The price Is Right.”
Arlus is survived by his children: Marty Ridge and wife Kim of New Paris, Debbie Phillips (husband Mike) of Richmond, Clyde Reese (wife Dawn Renee) of Williamsburg, Bruce Reese of Centerville, Ruthann McNally of Connersville; one brother: Orvel McGowan (wife Mary Lou) ; sisters: Betty Landis (companion Howard White), Joyce Zimmerman (husband Don), Wilma Maples (husband Max), Emily Dice (husband Eddie), Carolyn Colvin (husband Richard), Jenny Ethridge, Pauline Roberts, and Ann Russell; special friend, Hitzel Pennington; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Arlus was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia, in March 1980; his second wife, Betsy, in December 2014; a daughter: Teresa Czeck; a sister: Gracie Braumet; and two brothers: J C and Garland McGowan.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, February 11, 2016, at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel, in Liberty with Pastor Robert Bishop of the Hagerstown Friends Church officiating. Interment will follow in West Point Cemetery in Liberty. Friends may visit at the funeral home 11:00 A.M.
