Arthur Mark Redinger, 85, of Liberty, Indiana died Monday, July 29, 2024 at Ambassador Healthcare in Centerville from complications of Alzheimer’s. Arthur was born on September 13, 1938 to Ward and Virginia (Newhouse) Redinger in Argos, Indiana. He attended Argos High School graduating with the class of 1956. Arthur received a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture Economics from Purdue University in 1960 and furthered his education completing a Master’s degree also from Purdue. Arthur was employed through Purdue 4-H Extension Services for 34 years prior to his retirement serving Clay, Perry, Jackson and Union Counties. Arthur married Sally Leonard on September 2, 1962 in Brazil, IN. He was a member of the Lion’s Club, Union County Historical Society, Midwest Tool Collectors, Epsilon Sigma Phi, Purdue Alumni, Edward’s Memorial United Methodist Church, and Whitewater Carvers Club. Arthur enjoyed woodworking creating beautiful artwork as well as memories among family and friends, oftentimes challenging them to solve a variety of puzzles which he made. Many possess a piece of him in their home whether it be a child’s toy, a bench, a puzzle, game or a walking cane. Art had a keen interest in antique tools of which he collected and also used to make a variety of wood items. After his retirement he shared his passion of working with vintage tools by demonstrating their use at reenactments around the state as well as at the Pioneer Village at the Indiana State Fair for 20 years. He also donated many hand-hewed benches, saw handle canes and plaques to organization auctions. Whatever Art set out to do, he did so with passion and commitment. He earned many honors and awards throughout the community, state, national, and professional, as well as through his volunteer organizations. Arthur will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Sally, of sixty-one years; daughters: Marie (John) Beck, and Theresa Redinger; son: Roger Redinger; grandchildren: Leah (Alex) Johnson, Matthew Gharrity, Brian Redinger, Meghan (Brant Runkel) Redinger; great-grandchildren: Audrey, Quinn, Emery, and Boden; brother: Charles (Linda) Redinger; sister: Joy Evard; sister-in-law: Ginny Redinger; many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members and friends. Arthur was preceded in death by both parents; his brothers: Carl and Lee Redinger; Roger’s wife Judy, and Joy’s husband Ron. Visitation will be held at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel in Liberty, IN from 1-4pm on Friday, August 9 followed by funeral service at 4pm conducted by Reverend Charlie Black. Arthur will be laid to rest with graveside services at Walnut Church of The Brethren Cemetery, 5975 19th Road, Argos near his family’s farm on August 10 at 1pm. Memorial contributions may be made to: Union County 4H Association; Edwards Memorial United Methodist Church; or the Pioneer Village at the Indiana State Fair.
