Barbara D. Copper, 73, of the Everton community, died Saturday, August 24, 2013, at Reid Hospital, Richmond.
Barbara was born July 19, 1940 in Berea, Kentucky to John J. and Effie Keen Rogers. She was a 1958 graduate of Connersville High School and had attended Everton Elementary School. Following high school, Barbara attended classes to become a certified dietician. She had been employed as a substitute teacher at Whitewater Technical Career Center and had worked in the home health field. For several years, she was employed at Design and Manufacturing Rack Plant. Barbara was a ‘Master Gardener’ and enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers. She enjoyed most the time spent with her grandchildren.
Barbara is survived by her husband: George William Copper whom she married August 29, 1987; her children: John McGuire and Olga of Mansfield, Texas; Robert E. McGuire of Connersville; Denise Carter of Ft. Pierce, Florida; Joshua A. Copper of Peoria, Illinois; four grandchildren: Luke McGuire of Indianapolis; Kayla McGuire-Welter and her husband, Devon of Connersville; Jaybird McGuire and Robert McGuire, both of Mansfield, Texas; her great-grandson: Masyn Welter; six siblings: Annie McWhorter of Cincinnati, Ohio; Joyce Kirk and her husband, Kenny of Plainfield; Janie Day of Cambridge City; James Rogers of Connersville; Wanda Spurgin of Cambridge City; Pam Wright and her husband, Charles of Rushville; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Barbara is preceded in death by four sisters: Mildred Bowles, Jonetta Craycraft, Mary Gauche and Betty Hammond.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, with Pastor Mal Gibson of the First Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Everton Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 12 noon Wednesday until the time of service.
