Bertha A. Rankin, 90, of Liberty, died Saturday, October 22, 2011 at Sycamore Springs Rehabilitation Center.
A Liberty native, Bertha was born January 21, 1921 in Liberty to Samuel K. and Estella M. Rinehart Ross. She was a homemaker and worked for Union County Council on Aging and Aged. She was loved by everyone who knew her and she will be sorely missed for her humor and ready smile.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law: Sherri and Richard Hiler of Wilmington, North Carolina; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law: Ofelia Rankin of Liberty; several nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: J. Wilmot Rankin; son: Dennis R. Rankin; daughter: Joy Cash; two brothers: Raymond Ross, Kenneth Ross; three sisters: Beatrice Wilson, Lenora Conwell, and Mary Lee Perry; granddaughter: Anjanette Runion.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel, Liberty with Britt Hensley of West College Corner officiating. Interment will follow in Springersville Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service where memorial contributions maybe made to the American Cancer Society, American Lung Association, or any charity of the donor’s choice.
