Betty L. Johnson, 87, of Connersville, died Tuesday November 26th, 2013 at Heritage House of Connersville.
A native of Lincoln, Nebraska, she was born January 16, 1926, and attended girls’ school there. As a teenager, Betty was raised by Reverend Harold and Bertha Jack. On September 18, 1944, she was married in Alliance, Nebraska to Walter K. Johnson who died February 7th, 2003. Betty had been employed as a retail clerk at Newberry’s, Danners and Ben Franklin Department Stores, all in Connersville. She was a member of the Connersville Baptist Temple and enjoyed playing scrabble, working puzzles and fishing. For many years, Betty was a volunteer at Fayette Regional Health System.
Betty is survived by her four children and their spouses: W. Kenneth Johnson & Esther of Maryville, TN; Carolyn L. Hiatt & Randal of Liberty, Gloria Doub & Marvin of Connersville and Deborah A. McCreary & Rick of Shelbyville; eight grandchildren: Gregg Price, Stephen Bush, Whitney Sadow, Joe Brown, Wesley Miller, Nicholas Doub, Donald Hiatt, and Jody May; two step-granddaughters: Melissa Rodefer and Randi James; fourteen great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Betty is preceded in death by her foster parents, her foster sister: Jackie Johnson; infant twin grandsons, and a step-grandson, David Bush.
Funeral services for Betty will be conducted at 12 p.m. Wednesday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville with Pastor Tim Billups of Connersville Baptist Temple Church officiating. Interment will follow in Dale Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service where memorial contributions may be made to Fayette Regional Health System Auxiliary.
