Beulah Christine Gilland, 95, went to her heavenly home Sunday, April 24, 2016, Fayette Reginal Health System Hospital with family by her side.
Beulah was born to John Wesley and Elizabeth N. Powell Blaase near Tuscola, Illinois on February 26, 1921. The family moved to Connersville on March 31, 1928. Beulah attended Connersville area schools and was a 1939 graduate of Connersville High School. On April 12, 1941, she was married in Connersville to James “Jack” Gilland. Beulah had worked at several places and retired in 1985 from J.C. Penney following 23 years of employment. She was a charter member of Connersville Baptist Temple where she had taught Sunday School for many years and sang in the choir.
Beulah enjoyed cooking, sewing and spending time with her family and friends. She belonged to a supper club for twenty-five years and volunteered at the hospital. She was a member of the Connersville Chapter #346 Order of the Eastern Star and Gideons International.
Beulah is survived by her husband of 75 years; her daughter: Sheila Fiscus of Connersville; her grandchildren: Brad Hillman of Muncie and Bethany Peetz of Columbus; her great-granddaughters: Kara and Kailey Peetz of Columbus; her brother: Robert Blaase; a brother-in-law: Oliver Allen, both of Connersville; nephews: Jack Allen and Chris Baase; a niece: Nancy Allen Clifford and husband Jerry; several great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, Beulah was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Allen and her sister-in-law: Donna Blaase.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, with Rev. Jeff Garrison of Connersville, officiating. Interment will follow in section D of Dale Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 12 noon Thursday until the time of service where memorial contributions may be made the Connersville Baptist Temple Parking lot fund or to Gideons International.
