Carl Bennington, Jr., 91 of Las Vegas and former Connersville resident, died Saturday, January 9, 2016, at his residence in Las Vegas, Nevada where he had resided the past two years.
A Rushville native, Carl was born July 14, 1924 to Carl, Sr. and Edna Louise McDonald Bennington. He attended Connersville High School where he played football and basketball. In 1942, Carl enlisted in the U.S. Marines where he attained the rank of corporal where serving in the Pacific Area during WW II in the Bougainville, Guam and the Occupation of Japan campaigns. Prior to his discharge in 1946, he was married to the former Dorothy Jean Smith who died October 10, 1990. Carl worked as a chrome plater for 48 years at Stant Manufacturing, retiring in April 1990 and worked at the Maplewood Inn. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, the American Legion and enjoyed watching sports.
Carl is survived by his children and their spouses: Rick Bennington and Sondra of San Antonio, Texas; Carol Scudder and Mike of Las Vegas, Nevada; Kathy Hagerty and Larry of North Vernon; his grandchildren: Shannon Turner, Andrea Fisher, Michael Burch and Jay Bennington; great-grandchildren: Nicole Spinnazzola, Ethan, Elise, Clara and Laila Turner; Jackson and Demi Bennington; Colten, Nikolas and Peyton Fisher, Emily, Grace and Katee Burch and 3 great great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Carl was preceded in death by his brother Bill, sister Norma, and 3 grandchildren, Nicolas Lindsay, RaeAnne Distasi and Johnny Burch..
Services will be at the convenience of the family, per his wishes.
