Carolyn A. Stevens, 70, of Carmel and former Connersville resident, died Wednesday afternoon, January 4, 2012, at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis.
Carolyn was a Connersville native, born March 2, 1941 to Arville E. “Mike” and Lois M. Stant Bertsch, both of whom preceded her in death. In 1959, she graduated from Connersville High School and attended Columbia Christian School for Women in Missouri. Carolyn owned and operated Carolyn Stevens Interior Design, Inc., Carmel and was a member of the American Society of Interior Designers. For several years, she had owned Carolyn’s Interiors in downtown Connersville and had also operated a beauty shop in Connersville for over twenty years. She was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church, Indianapolis and was a former member of the Connersville Rotary Club, Tri Kappa Sorority, Altrusa and Daughters of the American Revolution. Carolyn had participated in the St. Margaret’s Hospital Guild Decorator Show House for over 30 years and was a former board member. She loved to travel for business and pleasure and annually attended designer markets in High Point, North Carolina, Chicago, Illinois and Atlanta, Georgia. Carolyn had been recognized throughout her career with numerous state and national awards for her exceptional design talents. She enjoyed vacationing at Burt Lake, Michigan where she was a member of the Cottage Association and the Preservation Club.
Carolyn is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Morris W. and Angela Stevens of Fishers; her granddaughter: Shelby M. Stevens; her sister: Claudia Kay Wilson of Cumming, Georgia; her niece: Beth Anne Boggs and her husband, Stephen of Smyrna, Georgia; her nephew: Bret Garwood of Cumming, Georgia; her great-nieces: Olivia Anne and Caroline Lydia Boggs and great-nephew: Davis Garwood.
Friends may visit at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, January 12, 2012, where memorial contributions may be made to the St. Margaret’s Hospital Guild. A Memorial Service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, January 14 at the Second Presbyterian Church, 7700 North Meridian Street, Indianapolis followed by a reception from 4:30 to 8 p.m. at the Indiana Design Center, 200 South Rangeline Road, Carmel.
