Charles E. “Chuck” Morris, 75, formerly of Connersville, died Friday, December 2, 2011 at Ambassador HealthCare, Centerville.
A Connersville native, Chuck was born October 19, 1936 in the front room of the family home on Conwell Street, the youngest of three children of Lawrence W. and Alice Mae Ward Morris. In 1955, he graduated from Connersville High School and attended Ball State University. Chuck returned to Connersville and began his lifelong newspaper career at the News-Examiner where he worked as the assistant publisher. He was a member of the Grand Avenue United Methodist Church and had attended Christ Jesus Community Church in Richmond. Chuck was a loving Husband, Father, Grandfather , Great-grandfather and enjoyed cars and time with his friends. He lived his life with honor and dignity and was a friend to all he met. He had served on the Board of Directors of the Connersville Area Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the Hoosier State Newspaper Association, Elks and Moose Lodges. Chuck enjoyed golf as a member of the Connersville and Liberty Country Clubs and was most proud of hitting a hole-in-one three times.
Chuck is survived by his wife, the former Gretchen M. Brandenburg, whom he married September 25, 1981 at the First Presbyterian Church; two children: Michael J. Morris and his wife, Shelly of Connersville, Mindy Morris of Huntington Beach, California; two grandsons and their spouses: Jason Morris and Jessica, Travis Morris and Mindy, all of Connersville; three great-grandchildren: Luke, Harley and Tyee Morris; a brother and sister-in-law: Lawrence “Junior” and Barbara Morris of Connersville; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by two step-sons: Stanley and Howard Sikorski and his sister, Barbara Thompson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville. Interment will follow in Dale Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday where memorial contributions may be made to Indiana University Alzheimer Research.
