Christine Wells, 93 of Connersville, died Thursday, March 16, 2017 at The Springs of Richmond.
Christine was born January 14, 1924 in Jackson County, Kentucky to Robert and Dora Cornelius Taylor. She was a graduate of the Annville Institute in Jackson County and had attended Berea College. On August 30, 1947 in Blooming Grove, Christine married Willie J. Wells. Together they owned and operated Wells Lumber and Hardware for over sixty years. Christine was dedicated to the community and her business with a very strong work ethic. She most enjoyed serving her friends and numerous customers. During WW II, Christine had been employed at American Central and had also worked at Taylor Building Supply with her brother, Coleman. She was a long time member of the Connersville Chapter #346, Order of the Eastern Star and was honorably named as a Kentucky Colonel.
Christine is survived by her sons and their spouses: Ronald J. Wells and Melanie; Roger D. Wells and Cindy, all of Connersville; her grandchildren and their spouses: Melissa Griffin and Kirk; Melinda Crank and Scott; Ryan C. Wells and his fiancé, Brittany Thomas; William J. Wells and Jessica, all of Connersville; Emily C. Bruns and Dustin of Brookville; Abby T. Wells of Connersville; her great-grandchildren: Samuel and Sarah Griffin, Maxwell and Mollie Crank, Alexis, Maria and Lola Wells; Madelynn Wells, Willa and Stella Bruns, Adriana and Alexandria Luking; her mother-in-law: “Lola” Wells of Cincinnati, Ohio; sister-in-law: Wilma Ruth Benedict of Cincinnati, Ohio; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Christine is preceded in death by her husband of nearly sixty-eight years, Willie J. Wells, who died April 17, 2015; her brothers: Maynard, Coleman and Theodore Taylor; and sisters: Stella Muncey, Grace Taylor and infant Bessie Taylor.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville with Revs. Jerry Rader and Lester Rose, officiating. Memorial services will be conducted by Connersville Chapter #346, Order of the Eastern Star prior to the funeral. Interment will follow in section A of Dale Cemetery.
