Christopher “Eugene” Ladd, 64, of Laurel, died Friday, November 2, 2012, at St Vincent Heart Center of Indiana in Indianapolis.
A Rushville native, Eugene was born November 5, 1947 to Martin David and Virgie Richmond Ladd. He was a 1966 graduate of Laurel High School and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Viet Nam era. Eugene most recently was employed at Hil-Rom in Batesville and worked at Visteon and Design and Mnufacturing as a tradesman, both in Connersville. On December 16, 1947, he was married in Glenwood to the former Geraldine Proffitt. Eugene enjoyed playing music, especially the bass guitar, fishing with his grandchildren and spending time with his wife, family and friends.
Eugene is survived by his wife of 47 years; his son and daughter-in-law: Kevin and Rebecca Ladd of Laurel; his Father: David Ladd and his wife, Linda of Richmond; two sisters: Susie Murphee and her husband, Curtis; Joyce Ladd, all of Connersville; three brothers and their wives: William Ladd and Lanae, Eddie Abrams and Paula, all of Connersville; Ernie Ladd and Ruth Ann of Laurel; three grandchildren: David B., Sarah and Elisabeth Ladd; two step-brothers: Keith Combs of Laurel, George "Rusty" Combs of Laurel; a step-sister: Tonya Combs of Kentucky; nieces and nephews.
Eugene was preceded in death by his Mother, a sister: Debbie Monroe and his step-Father: George Gabbard.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, with Rev. Jeff Edwards of the Rushville Baptist Church, officiating. Military honors will be directed by the Fayette County Veterans Council. Cremation will follow. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday where memorial contributions may be made to help defray funeral costs. .
