Claire Z. Richmond, 102, of Liberty, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at her residence. Claire had a long and happy life due, no doubt, to her attitude and love for life and the One who gave it to her. Her morning talk, before her mind got weaker, was to her Father with her favorite prayer. “Dear Father, you are ushering in a new day untouched and freshly made. So here I come, dear God, to ask you to renew me too. Forgive the many errors I made yesterday and let me try to walk closer in Thy Way. But dear Father, I know I cannot do it on my own, so touch my hand, and hold it tight for I cannot walk alone.”
She was born in Union County on December 19, 1911, to William and Lucy Beard Finch. She attended School in Liberty, attended Purdue for three years, and then graduated from Miami University in 1933. Claire and Wilford Richmond were married on December 30, 1933, in her own home. In her younger days, she was very active in Edwards Memorial United Methodist Church in Liberty, helped with girl scouts, rainbow girls, and enjoyed her many bridge clubs.
Claire is survived by two daughters: Jean Snyder and husband Rondal of Liberty, and Sue Harrison and husband Dale of Eaton, Ohio; ten grandchildren and their spouses; twenty–seven great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1975, and two sisters: Florence Higgins and Beatrice Long.
A public Graveside service will be conducted 11:00 A.M., Saturday, August 9, 2014, at West Point Cemetery in Liberty with Rev. Scott Bell of Edwards Memorial United Methodist Church officiating.
