Cotton Phillips, 70, of Liberty, died Sunday, December 20, 2015, at Reid Health in Richmond.
Cotton was born in Kentucky, on November 15, 1945, to Arco and Martha Holland Phillips. On February 27, 1969, Cotton married the love of his life, Kay Begley, in Wise, Virginia. He lived in the Liberty area for the past forty-seven years, and was self-employed in the roofing and construction business. Cotton was known for his great work ethic, honesty, and determination to know his work satisfied his customers. Cotton loved his wife, his family, coon hunting, and attending Autumn Oaks every year. He was a member of the Hanna’s Creek Conservation Club.
In addition to his wife of forty-six years, Cotton is survived by two sons; Jason Phillips and wife Patricia, and Joshua Bryan Phillips both of Liberty; two granddaughters: Kyra Page Phillips and Zoe Irene Phillips both of Hanover, PA; two brothers: Ernest Phillips of Brookville and Donald Phillips and wife Gene of Miamisburg, OH; and special friends: Kenny Buttery and Wilgus Banks of College Corner. Cotton was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son: Jonathan Phillips; and a son Carl Bryan Phillips who died on July 11, 2007; and several siblings.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 28, 2015, at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel in Liberty with Rev. Dana Hadden of Hanna’s Creek Church officiating. Interment will follow in Richland Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 12:00 p.m. Monday until the time of service where memorial contributions may be made to Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home on behalf of the family for final expenses.
