David L. Joy, 65, of Connersville, died Friday, November 28, 2014, at his residence.
David was born in Muncie, September 4, 1949, to Robert L. and Patricia A. Sullivan Joy and had lived in Connersville since 1950. In 1967, he graduated from Connersville High School. David served with the United States Marine Corps from1968 to 1970 in the Viet Nam War. He joined the U.S. Army in November of 1974 where he served until July 1989. David was a member of the First United Methodist Church, AMVETS, Disabled American Veterans, 40 et 8 and Veterans of Foreign Wars where he had served as 2nd Vice Commander. For two years, David attended Indiana University East.
David is survived by his son: Ryan D. Joy of Connersville; his siblings and their spouses: Steve Joy of Indianapolis, Danny Joy and Shelia of McCordsville, Barbara Joy of Franklin, Karen Savard and Robert of North Palm Beach, Florida; three grandchildren: Ashley Barrett, Brennan Joy and Rylie Joy; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
David is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter: Jessica Ann Joy, who died in 2001; and his brother: Brian Joy who died in 2009.
Memorial services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 6, 2014, at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, with Eric Hopkins officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Fayette County Veterans Council. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 12 to 2 p.m. Saturday where memorial contributions may be made to the Robert L.
