David K. Ketring, 74, of Liberty, died Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at his residence.
On September 9, 1936 David was born to Orville and Kathryn Hawkins Ketring in Richmond. Following his graduation from Kitchel High School, David served in the United States Navy for the next 18 years, earning the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Meritorious Unit Commendation. David worked at Stant Manufacturing and Philo-Ford until his retirement in 2000. He was a member of the Galilean Baptist Church, Whitewater Masonic Lodge, Veteran of Foreign Wars post #1472, and the American Legion post # 122. David enjoyed traveling, bowling, golfing, playing cards, watching NASCAR, being with his family, and reading the Bible.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years: Betty M. Risch Ketring; four sons and their wives: Dave and Ticky Ketring of Pensacola, Florida; Jim and Mandi Ketring of Liberty; Doug and Michelle Ketring of Laurel; Phil and Susan Ketring of Edinburgh; daughter and son-in-law: Debbie and Jessie Blevins of Liberty; two grandchildren: Jason Ketring and Riley Blevins; five great-grandchildren; two sisters: Nancy Moore of Richmond; Deloris Everett of Maryville, Tennessee; several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are his parents and a brother, Richard Ketring.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 25, 2011 at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel, Liberty with Pastor Jim Slaven of Ravinia Park Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in West Point Cemetery with military graveside services conducted by Veteran of Foreign Wars Post #1472 and the American Legion Post # 122. Friends may visit at the Funeral Home on Sunday from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. where memorial contributions maybe made to Reid Hospital Foundation for the Hospice Care Fund or the charity of the donor’s choice.
