Donald W. Segrist

In loving memory of Donald W. Segrist, 64, of Norwood, Ohio who passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 17, 2023 with his children by his side. Born on March 23, 1959 in Cincinnati, Ohio, Donald was the eighth of fifteen children to the late John “Chic” H. Sr., and Angela M. Teismann Segrist. Donald attended Norwood High School graduating with the class of 1976. He furthered his education receiving a certificate in culinary arts. Donald decided to take a temporary job as a landscaper, and that is where he found his passion. He was a hardworking landscaper for forty-two years until he retired in 2019. Donald married his one true love, the former Barbara “Bee” Egbers on August 31, 1984 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Barb was also the eighth child in her family. Together they shared twenty-one years prior to her passing on August 31, 2005. Devoted to family, Donald found joy in outdoors activities, especially fishing at camp or any spot where he could cast his pole. An avid family man, he cherished simple pleasures like spending time with his loved ones. Donald’s personality was evident while playing poker, throwing, horseshoes and corn hole, or gathering around the fire with a beer. He was the life of the party, always bringing laughter and creating lasting memories. Above all, Donald cherished his grandchildren, and felt privileged to be their Granddad. He will be remembered for countless reasons; to his children he will always be remembered as the best father they could have. Donald is survived by his son: William D. and Raven Segrist; daughter: Michelle “Shelly” Segrist and Nick Rybolt; bonus son: Darryl Wooten and Sam; grandchildren: Hailey, Delany, Bronson, Loralie, Livia; siblings: Steven Segrist, Patti Minniear, Maria Segrist, Susan Segrist, Martha and Bill Lack, Chris and Kim Segrist, Nicky and Julie Segrist, Terry and Vicki Segrist, Tommy and M Segrist, Teddy and Jen Segrist; brothers and sisters in law: Sheila Segrist, Joelle Segrist, Dutch and Donna Egbers, Jack and Debbie Egbers, Denise Egbers, Bill Egbers, Michael and Pennie Egbers, Susie Egbers, Bobby Egbers; numerous cousins, three generations of nephews and nieces, and other extended family members far too numerous to list. In addition to his loving wife and parents, Donald is preceded in death by his brothers: John H. Segrist Jr., Bobby Segrist, Michael Segrist, Tony Segrist; brother in law: Rick Egbers; sisters in law: Kate Segrist, Brenda Segrist; Nephew: Chris Heidenreich; Niece: Kelsie Crow. Donald’s family would like to say a special thank you to the nurses and staff at Hospice of Cincinnati BlueAsh for their compassionate care during his final days. A Mass of Christian burial will be conducted by Father Dustin Boehm at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 28, 2023 at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church, 232 W 9th St, Connersville, IN 47331. Family and friends may visit at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of mass. Burial will follow at 2:15 p.m. at Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, 11000 Montgomery Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45249.
