Donald G, Shonk, 63, longtime resident of the Alquina community, went to be with Jesus, Friday evening, December 13, 2013, at Reid Hospital, Richmond, due to complications of leukemia.
Donald was born in Brazil, March 16, 1950, to Donald R. and Joann Baker Shonk and was a 1970 graduate of Connersville High School. He was a veteran of the U.S Army and was a member of the Connersville Baptist Temple. Donald had been employed at Design and Manufacturing and most recently had assisted as a caregiver to his mother. He loved animals and going to the movies. He was a fan of Tony Stewart, NASCAR and enjoyed traveling, especially visits to Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
Donald is survived by his Mother; his sister and brother-in-law: Jill and Don Potters of Richmond; and his niece: Jennifer Risselman Lozano and her husband, Romeo of Noblesville. He is preceded in death by his Father who died in 2010 and his grandparents.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, with Pastor Tim Billups of the Connersville Baptist Temple officiating. Interment will follow in Dale Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 11 a.m. Wednesday until the time of service where memorial contributions may be made to the Fayette County Cancer Society or to HELP Animal Shelter, Richmond.
