Edwin L. Snyder, 85, of Waterloo Township, Fayette County, died Sunday evening, June 5, 2011, at Caroleton Manor Nursing Home where he had resided a short time.
A Fayette County native, he was born December 13, 1925 to Henry J. and Ellen Welch Snyder and attended school at St. Paul, Decatur County. Ed farmed in Waterloo Township and was widely known for raising Belgian draft horses. He was a member of the Belgian Draft Horse Association and was a long time director of the Draft Horse Association at the Fayette County Free Fair. Ed was also a member of the Farm Bureau association, Connersville B.P.O. Elks #379, Fayette County Senior Center and the Raleigh Community Club. He loved to go to Maggie’s Diner every day to visit with his friends and he enjoyed playing euchre. Ed attended Grand Avenue United Methodist Church.
Ed is survived by his wife, the former Mary Margaret Fowler Robinson, whom he married October 9, 1998 in Connersville; step-children and their spouses: Charles Maples and Connie of Connersville, Gloria McCullum and Harlan of Ocala, Florida, Glenna Riesterer and Pete of Jacksonville, Florida, Connie Sacksteder of Muncie, Charles Robinson and Neda of Orlando, Florida, Roy Robinson, Jr. and Robin of Montgomery, Alabama; grandchildren: Holly Maples of Little Rock, Arkansas, Karina Hinton and her husband, Matt of Jackson, Missouri, Lana Sweney of Troy, Michigan, Matthew Robinson of Montgomery, Alabama, Brooke Sacksteder of Muncie, Trey Sacksteder of Anderson; great-grandchildren: Wyatt Hinton, Joshua and Christina Sweney; siblings and their spouses: Genevieve Snyder of Indianapolis, Jeanette Back of Greensburg, John W. Snyder of Connersville, Norman Snyder and Dorothy of Rush County, Charlotte Raby of Modoc, Ruth Ross of Indianapolis, Dorothy King and Ron of Cottage Grove, Minnesota, James A. Snyder and Joan of Connersville, Rose Ann Morgan and Ken of Indianapolis; many nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Lois Lanning Maple, who died February 11, 1995 and a sister: Catherine Phelps.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, with Rev. Betty Ann Garrett officiating. Interment will follow in Springersville Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday where memorial contributions may be made to the Grand Avenue United Methodist Church.
