Elizabeth R. Hignite

Former Connersville resident, Elizabeth R. Hignite, 92, died Monday, January 26, 2015, at Hancock Regional Inpatient Hospice Unit in Greenfield. Elizabeth was born in Fayette County to Herman and Ethel Boyd Adams on February 3, 1922 and lived in Fayette County for eighty years. She was a 1940 graduate of Connersville High School and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Ball State University, Muncie, in 1944. For over forty-two years, she taught the third grade at Maplewood Elementary School. Elizabeth was very energetic and stayed active. She was always eager to help others, regardless of their project. Elizabeth was a member of Central Christian Church and enjoyed reading and dancing and loved animals. She was an avid euchre player and regularly attended the Greenfield Senior Center since moving from Connersville. In addition to her parents, Elizabeth is preceded in death by nine siblings: Violet Taylor, Esther May, Isabel Johnson; Handley, Evan, Ray, John, Birna and Noel Adams. She is survived by nephews and nieces, including, Linda Bell and Becky Niedenthal, both of Greenfield. Funeral services will be conducted at 12 noon Friday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville. Cremation will follow. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 11 a.m. Friday until the time of service where memorial contributions may be made to the Greenfield Senior Center, 280 Apple Street, Greenfield, Indiana, 46140.
