Ellen Jean Hires

Ellen J. Hires, 80, of Connersville, died Tuesday, January 17, 2017, at Premier Healthcare of Connersville. A Fayette County native, Ellen was born May 12, 1936 to Frank Price and Jean Margaret Duncan Shafer. On June 24, 1972, she was married in Bentonville to Cedric L. Hires. Together they had owned and operated a dairy farm near Fairview. Ellen was a homemaker and had been employed as the housekeeper at St. Gabriel Church for many years. Ellen is preceded in death by her parents, her husband who died June 23, 1999; her sister: Nancy Faye Shafer who died in 1943; her brother: John Joseph Shafer who died in 1994; and a nephew: John Price Shafer who died in 1998. She is survived by her church family and friends. The Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Gabriel Church. Interment will follow in Lick Creek Cemetery. Friends may visit at the church from 9 a.m. Friday until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Gabriel School.
