Liberty

Ellis E. Myers, 97, formerly of Liberty died Wednesday, January 29th, at his son’s residence in Waldron after an extended illness. Ellis was born in Union County near Liberty on August 26, 1916, to Dellis and Mary Carson Myers. He was a 1934 graduate of Short High School. He married Louise Matthews on May 31, 1941 in Metamora. Ellis, a lifelong farmer and resident of Union County, was a DeKalb Seed Corn dealer for many years. Following retirement, Ellis moved to North Ft. Myers, FL, where he spent the majority of his retirement until he returned to Indiana to live with his son three and a half years ago. Ellis was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and a member and Past Master of Masonic Lodge # 58 F & AM both in Liberty. He enjoyed singing and sang in the church choir, with the Barbershop Chorus and quartet called the Unionaires. Ellis also enjoyed shooting guns, boating, riding motorcycles, and playing golf. Besides his wife of over 72 years, Ellis is survived by a son and his spouse, Edwin Myers and Kay of Waldron; three grandchildren: Gregory Myers and Michelle of Liberty, Beth Ann Wozniak and Terry of Waynesville, OH, and Rebecca Fox and Joseph of Pittsboro; seven great grandchildren: Vivian, Magdolen, Lillian, and Roselyn Myers, Edison and Teagan Wozniak, and Logan Fox; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Ellis was preceded in death by a son, Alison Dean Myers; a brother, Dean Myers; and two sisters: Geneva Montgomery and Cassie Gray Toole. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 3rd , at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel, Liberty with Rev. Marcy Patrick of the Waldron United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens near Boston in Wayne County. Friends may visit at the funeral home 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 2nd, where a Masonic Service will be conducted at 6:00 p.m. by the Liberty Masonic Lodge # 58 F & AM.
