Elma Jean Butler, 92, of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, died Thursday, March 20, 2014.
Elma was born October 17, 1921 in Kansas City, Missouri to Gilbert M. and Mary H. Millard Crow. She was raised and received her education in the Kansas City, Missouri community where she graduated high school in Salina, Kansas. In 1938, she moved to Wichita, Kansas where she completed self-study in accounting with no formal schooling.
Elma Jean and Robert William Butler were married in Wichita on December 1, 1945. They made their first home there for five years. The Butlers came to Bartlesville in 1950 and Mr. Butler was employed by the First National Bank and Mrs. Butler began her long career with Phillips Petroleum Company in 1951 in the Treasury Department. She retired from Phillips in 1983 following 32 years of service. Mr. Butler preceded Elma Jean in death and she has continued her residence in the Bartlesville community since that time.
Elma Jean was a member of the First Baptist Church, Bartlesville; life member of the Jane Phillips Society; Desk and Derrick Organization; Hillcrest Women’s Golf Association; and the Women’s Missionary Union at First Baptist Church.
Survivors include her nephew, Dale Crow of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and her niece, Mary Lynn Pierce of Middleburg Heights, Ohio; her sister-in-law: Maxine Short and her husband, Robert of Connersville; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother and sister-in-law, Harry Crow and Polly Crow; and her husband, “Bob”.
Graveside services will be conducted Monday, March 31, at 1:00 PM, at Circle Grove Cemetery in Spiceland, Indiana. Friends may visit at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, from 12 to 12:30 PM Monday.
