Ethel J. Ailes

June 28, 1926 — December 12, 2018

Connersville

Ethel June Saylor Ailes A beautiful, sacred, selfless life came to a gentle close on Wednesday, December 12, 2018,when Ethel June Saylor Ailes was taken to her eternal home where her soul now resides in the presence of the Eternal God. She has been welcomed by God the Father, Jesus Christ, the Son and Redeemer and the Holy Spirit. Ethel was always tremendously supportive of her late husband—Curtis Albert Ailes—whom she married August 7, 1945, and he passed away in August of 2010. Her children---Jerome Curtis Ailes, Connersville; Tobin Lee Ailes and his wife, Cindy, Connersville; Pamela Ailes Muench, Lafayette; James Curtis Ailes and his wife, Debbie, Connersville; Terry Lane Ailes, Philippines; and Julia Ann Molloy and her husband, John, Greenwood, each celebrate her precious, giving life with enumerable memories and moments of being loved, held, mentored, and cared for during those many decades of being blessed to have been her children. Ethel was born into a warm and loving home---a family of nine children—and she was the sixth child born to Nollie Sizemore Saylor and David “Cap” Saylor---on June 28, 1926 in a tiny cottage nestled along the Snail Creek Road in Metamora, Franklin County. She had attended Elm Grove School in the second grade, Gap School and Plum Grove School and Batesville High School; During her time of living with a family in Norwood, Ohio and in the middle of the Second World War, she worked as a “nanny”, and while there, she attained a business certificate. Ethel was always involved in so many ways within the community. She was a difference maker. During the late 1950’s, she organized a “ladies civil defense auxiliary”; she was instrumental in getting legislation passed for offenders of drunk driving, through her founding of a local Mothers Against Drunk Drivers chapter in Fayette County. She was a member of Eagle Forum during the 70’s and 80’s which sought to maintain traditional values within the home and family. She worked hard for additional legislation against drug paraphernalia and succeeded. During the early 2000’s, she had organized and put together a “Support our Troops” rally during the early days of the Iraq War. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church for many years and had taught the boy’s 5-year old Sunday School class for over 20 years. Ethel also home-schooled one of her grandsons and he successfully graduated from high school. A prolific writer, she composed a beautiful poem titled, “Prayer for My Children”. Surviving in addition to her four sons and two daughters are five grandsons: Earl Ailes, Curt Ailes, Jr., David Risch, Tory Ailes and Jason Ailes; eight granddaughters: LaDeana Ailes Espinal, Rebecca Risch, Lori Ailes, Sarah Ailes Martin, Amanda Ailes, and Lee Elizabeth Ailes Weber, and Teri Sue Ailes; and 15 great-grandchildren. Ethel is also survived by two sisters: Sarah Mae Hunter of Connersville; and Esther Allen, also of Connersville. A granddaughter, Beth Ellen Risch Stayer, passed away in 2009. Funeral services will be conducted at 12 noon Monday, December 17, 2018, at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, with her family, Pamela Ailes Muench, Julia Ann Molloy and Rebecca Risch, officiating. Interment will follow in Dale Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 11 a.m. Monday until the time of service.
