Ethel M. Readnour, 92, of Connersville, died Sunday evening, April 13, 2014, at Heritage House Nursing Center, Connersville.
A Connersville native, Ethel was born January 27, 1922 to Francis and Minnie Pitcher Hill. On May 3, 1941, she was married to Virgil "Gene" Readnour in Connersville, who died December 24, 2008. Ethel was a member of Grace United Methodist Church where she and her husband were members of the Ambassadors for Christ. Ethel earned her GED on their 35th wedding anniversary. Ethel had been employed in the lunch room at the Connersville Junior High School and had worked at Dairy Queen on 30th Street. Ethel greatly enjoyed caring for her family. In her leisure time, she enjoyed sewing and liked to play Scrabble and Aggravation.
Ethel is survived by her children: B.G. Readnour and his wife, Rita of Daytona Beach, Florida; Debbie Parker and her companion, Rick Bowling of Connersville; Evelyn “Patty” Lawson and her husband, Dan of Jasper, Indiana; Helen Quinn and her fiancé, Dannie Whaley of Jonesboro, Georgia; her sister: Nancy Estes of Connersville; nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren, with a great grandson on the way; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband of 67 years, Ethel was preceded in death by an infant son: James Thomas Readnour; her siblings: Elizabeth Hampton, James R. and Clyde V. Hill.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville with Reverend Mark Powell of Grace United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Dale Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of service where memorial contributions may be made to Grace United Methodist Church or Fayette County Diabetes Support Group.
