Eugene “Gene” Clark, 80, of Henry County and former Milton resident, died Sunday morning, July 29, 2012, at his residence.
Gene was born December 21, 1931 in Morehead, Kentucky, to Zenas and Bertha F. Plank Clark and moved to the Connersville area with his family in 1943. In 1950, he graduated from Connersville High School and later attended Morehead State University, University of Kentucky and Earlham College where he completed courses in pre-medicine, geology and accounting. Gene served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1954. From 1965 until the late 1980s, he was employed as an accountant at Ford Electronics and Refrigeration in Connersville. Gene had also farmed in northern Fayette County and southern Wayne County. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie #1065, AMVETS Post 11, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 571, Voiture 1040 of 40 et 8, all of Connersville and American Legion Post 169 in Cambridge City. Gene loved the outdoors and was an avid reader of educational books.
Gene is survived by his daughter: Julie A. Williams and her husband, Billy, with whom he had made his home; two grandsons: Cole and Lucas Williams of Henry County; two sisters: Ethel McClurg of East Enterprise and Kathleen Lykins of Connersville; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by two brothers: Henry and Joe Clark; two sisters: Betty Jones and Patty Colter; an infant brother and an infant sister.
Funeral services will be conducted at 6 p.m. Thursday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, followed by military honors conducted by the Fayette County Veterans Council. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday where memorial contributions may be made to the Whitewater Valley Land Trust.
