Evelyn Lucille Doulen, 87, of Connersville passed away Saturday evening, January 13, 2018 at Hickory Creek of Connersville.
A native of Arjay, Kentucky, Lucille was born April 3, 1930 to Albert and Ethel Bruner Hayslett. In Pineville, Kentucky, she attended high school and later married her sweetheart, Oliver P. Doulen on September 10, 1947. Lucille was a devout Christian and lived her life for Christ. As a dedicated member of the First Church of the Nazarene, Connersville, she served on the Board of Trustees, as a Sunday school teacher in the nursery class and was in charge of the church’s Cradle Roll for over thirty years. She also enjoyed providing transportation to and from church to anyone who needed it. Lucille drove for Fayette County School Corp for twenty-five years. She was known by her beloved school bus children as “Loose Wheel.”
Lucille is survived by her children: Jimmy Doulen; Linda Laughlin, both of Connersville; Beth Ann Miller and her husband, Larry of Brownsville; Kimberly Grubbs and her husband, Brian of Cambridge City; her sisters: Pauline “Polly” Floyd and Anna Laws, both of Connersville; her grandchildren: Rocky and Billy Doulen; Joey Laughlin; Reanna and Olivia Miller; Drew and Allie Grubbs; her great-grandchildren: Darien and Daniel Doulen; Shaina, Jacob and Elijah Laughlin; several brother and sisters-in-law including: Maynes Doolin, Flossie Miller; Mildred Doulen; Jean Doulen; Nancy Hayslett; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Lucille is preceded in death by her husband, Oliver “Fat Boy” Doulen, her beloved son: Danny Doulen; her siblings: Roland, Jay and Walter Hayslett; Georgia Strunk; her daughter-in-law: Sandy Doulen. her infant siblings: Emma, twins: Edgar and Edna, Anna’s twin: Fannie Mae and Pauline’s twin: Corine.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, January 19, 2018 at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, with Pastor Randy Sherwood of the First Church of the Nazarene, officiating. Interment will follow at Dale Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Friday from 12 p.m. until the time of service where memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home.
