Frances Pope, 91, of Connersville died, surrounded by her family, October 23, 2017 at Premier Healthcare, Connersville.
A Connersville native, Frances was born November 17, 1925 to Tony E. and Minnie Cornett Ervine and attended area schools. At the age of 17, Frances packed her suitcase, grabbed her seven dollars and traveled to Kansas City, Missouri to marry the love of her life, Claude Pope, Jr. They were wed on June 5, 1943. While Claude served in the military, Frances faithfully toured from New Mexico to Seattle to continuously be by his side. The devotion she provided to her husband and children will be cherished. Frances was employed at Rex Manufacturing and its predecessors, until her retirement in 1987. After retiring, Frances and Claude traveled to various places including Mount Rushmore, Texas, Arizona, Louisiana, Florida and Mexico. In her leisure time, she enjoyed watching cardinals and gold finches.
Frances is survived by Claude, her husband of seventy-four years; her five generations of family include: her sons and spouses: Mike Pope and Kate of Blooming Grove; Jeff Pope and Lisa of Denver, Colorado; Bob Pope of Connersville; her grandchildren and spouses: Shannon Pope; William Pope and Michelle; Christopher Pope; Todd Pope and Kim; Crissy Lutz; Amy Feeback and Jeremie; Abby Taylor and Steve Godsey; Ashley Helms and Michael; Brandon Pope and Lauren; Jason Pope and Quinton; her great-grandchildren: Timothy Pope; Robert Pope; Jessica Szalai; Emily, Jack, Kara, Sofie, Maddie, Alyssa, Alexus, Alaina and Adelaide Pope; Allison, Mollie and Carlee Feeback; Mason and Cooper Taylor; Haisley and Hesston Helms; her great-great-grandchildren: Lillian Simmons, Keagon Pope and James Hertel; her sister: Sharon Sturgis of Connersville; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Frances is preceded in death by her infant son, Gary Francis Pope; her son, William “Bill” Pope; her sisters: Phyllis Fish, Ruby Hobbs, Wilma Collins, Donna Williamson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 28, 2017 at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, with her son, Mike Pope, officiating. Interment will follow in Dale Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday where memorial contributions may be made to the Everton Southern Baptist Church.
