Garry Van Barry, 67, of Liberty, Indiana, died Thursday, July 20, 2023, at Brickyard Healthcare in Richmond. Garry was born to Billy and Virginia Lucille Hampton Berry on March 10, 1956. He received his diploma from St. Mary High School in Colorado Springs, Colorado in December 1981. In January 1975, he enlisted in the Indiana Army National Guard. In September 1976, he proudly transitioned into The United States Army eventually earning the rank of Sergeant. Garry dedicated his life to the service. He was awarded numerous medals, commendations, and certificates of achievement throughout his fourteen years of service to his country, receiving honorable discharge in 1988. He returned home to Indiana and was employed as a long-haul semi-truck driver. Garry enjoyed racing, going fishing, and listening to a wide variety of music. He adored spending time with his family and friends. He will be missed greatly. Garry is survived by his children and their spouses: Anthony Sellers and Amanda, of Cincinnati, Ohio, Krista Halcomb and Jeremy Scantland, of New Madison, Ohio, Scott Berry, of Richmond, Indiana; brother: Chuck and Jenny Womack Berry; sister: Teresa Harvey; brother-in-law: Joe Richardson; grandchildren: Breanna, Liam, Owen, Alex, Bryce, Blaine, Addyson; great-grandson: Jaxon; former wife: Chong N. Berry; many nieces, nephews, and friends too numerous to mention. In addition to his parents, Garry is preceded in death by his brother: John E. Berry; sister: Brenda G. Berry Thomas, Misty A. Berry Richardson; brothers-in-law: Brian Harvey, Sam Thomas; Aunt Beverly J. Richardson and Uncle Jack. Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday August 2, 2023 at Dayton National Cemetery, Showalter Blackwell Long, Fosdick chapel, Liberty has been entrusted with arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Children’s Hospital of Lexington, Kentucky (Donate to Christmas in July (lovetotherescue.org)) in Garry’s honor.
