Gary L. Hamilton, 63, of Richmond, died unexpectedly Tuesday, February 28, 2012, at his home.
He was born on July 27, 1948 in Knightstown to Claude and Auderene Richmond Hamilton. Gary attended Knightstown schools, and earned his Associates Degree at Ivy Tech. In his younger years, he worked at Richmond Baking Company and Chem Lawn. Most of his career was spent as a facsimile transmission specialist with the Paladium-Item/USA Today and Optical Disc Solutions. He loved dogs, racing, and music, and had once been in a band.
Gary is survived by his children: Thomas Hamilton, of Miamisburg, Ohio; Ted Hamilton and his wife, Juliet; Tiffany Hamilton, all of Richmond; four grandchildren: Bailey Hamilton; Hayden Hamilton; Nita Zakaeifar and her husband, Yousef; Tracy Miller; four great-grandchildren: Mekenna McDonald; Mekenzi McDonald; Jonas Miller; Alaina Miller; an additional great-grandchild expected soon; two sisters: Bonnie Rhodes and her husband, Bob, of Knightstown; Janet Rhodes, of Knightstown; several nieces and nephews.
Preceeding him in death are: his wife, Sherri A. Riley Hamilton, who died in 2007; his parents; his brother: Cobern Hamilton.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, March 5, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel, in Liberty. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery Garden of Memories. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Sunday from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m., where memorial contributions may be made to the Indiana Arts Commission or Help the Animals, Inc. of Richmond.
