H. Nelson Curry, 88, of Liberty, died Friday, December 16, 2011 at Sycamore Springs Rehabilitation Center.
On October 6, 1923 Nelson was born in Metamora to Arthur and Lois Watkins Curry. He married to the former Reba M. Thomas on June 6, 1943. Nelson was a hardworking farmer who loved the land. He farmed his entire life, working as a farm hand until he was able to purchase his own farm in Liberty. Nelson started hauling livestock for neighboring farms, which grew into a livestock trucking company. Ultimately, he moved to Nebraska to be a cattle buyer. Nelson and Reba returned to their farm in Liberty to raise their family. Nelson was a member of Greenwood United Methodist Church, Liberty Lodge #58 F&AM, and Shriners International.
Survivors include his children and their spouses: Howard N. Curry, Thomas A. and Rhonda Curry, Sandra J. and Joseph Floyd, all of Liberty; three brothers: James M. Curry, of Liberty, Wilbur Curry, of West College Corner, Larry Curry and his wife, Dorothy, of Connersville; a sister and brother-in-law: Helen and Tom Greeson of Williamsburg; six grandchildren: Richard, Jim, Jenny, Jacob, Raeanne, and Joe; five great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are his parents; wife; son: John Norman Curry, infant sister: Laura Curry; a granddaughter: Joni Curry.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel, Liberty with Pastor Dana Hadden of Hanna’s Creek Christian Church officiating. Interment will follow in New Fairfield Cemetery – Sims Section. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5 until 8 p.m. and after 10 a.m. on Wednesday where memorial contributions may be made to Greenwood United Methodist Church or to the Shriners Hospital for Children.
