Harold E. Gilmore

April 18, 1934 — September 5, 2024

Liberty

Harold E. Gilmore, 90 of College Corner, died Thursday, September 5, 2024, at home. Harold Eugene Gilmore born in Hamilton, Ohio on April 18, 1934, the son of Faye W. and Genevieve Pinkerton Gilmore. He graduated from Billingsville Grade School in 1948 and College Corner Union School in 1952. From the age of 2 he resided on the family Union County farm as long as health permitted. He enjoyed crop rotation farming, raising hogs and beef cattle and in later years his egg delivery business. Harold’s two main interests in life were the Presbyterian Church on State Line Street in College Corner, where he became a member in April 1945 and the College Corner Community Club since 1953. The members of the two groups were like family to him. At the church he served in nearly every office, sang in the adult choir and taught Sunday School for 60 years. If Harold wasn’t present, you could be sure he was sick or there was a livestock emergency. As a member of the Community Club he started on the Ball Park Committee for 12 years, 27 years as Cub Master of Pack 985 and for the past 30 years has been Co-Charman of the Fourth of July Parade. Harold had the privilege of being the Club President in 1958 when they hosted the Indiana State Fast Pitch Softball Finals and again in 1998 when the Club was awarded a large Lilly Grant through the Union County Foundation, to make improvements to the Ball Park and in the The Town Grove. He also served his community on the Union County Council and Board of Directors of both the Union County Coop and the Union County Foundation. Harold had also been active in the Union School Alumni Association for many years. Harold’s willingness to serve others was his way of showing thankfulness to God for the numerous near fatal injuries and accidents he experienced throughout his life and some how survived. Survivors are cousins, Dianne Gilmore Young, Tom Pinkerton, Tonya Paddock, Ted Pinkerton and Treva Reiboldt. Harold is preceded in death by his parents; infant brother Kenneth Faye; sister, Genee Gilmore Hesse; brother in law, Leroy Hesse and cousins Joy McMechan Robbins, Jean Brown Brattain, Charles Dean Murray, Don Brown, Bob Gilmore, R. William Gilmore and James McMechan. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the College Corner Fund at the Union County Foundation, 404 Eaton Street, Liberty, Indiana 47353 or the College Corner Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 307, College Corner, Ohio 45003. Funeral service for Harold Eugene Gilmore will be 1:00 pm Friday, September 13 at the College Corner Presbyterian Church, 112 S.
