Helen M. Dunaway, 87, of Liberty died Thursday, March 13, 2014, at Reid Hospital in Richmond.
Helen was born in Irvine, Estill County, Kentucky on May 21, 1926, to George and Mattie Allen Dunaway. She attended Irvine Kentucky Schools and married Levi Dunaway. Helen came to the Liberty area in 1950 and was employed as a florist at Liberty Greenhouse for a number of years. She also worked for Union County Transit. She was a puzzle enthusiast and had a great love for flowers.
Helen is survived by a daughter, Peggy Hampton and her spouse Fred Hampton of New Castle; a daughter-in-law, Bridget Dunaway of College Corner; two granddaughters and their spouses, Lisa Thompson and Dewey of Richmond, and Stephanie Hertel and Kevin of Liberty; four great-grandchildren: Dillon and Megan Thompson of Richmond, and Austin and Wesley Hertel of Liberty; one niece, Patricia Bailey and one nephew, Tom Dunaway.
Besides her parents and her husband Levi, who died in 1969, Helen was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Barbara Ann; a son John Dunaway who died February 22, 1997; and a brother, Glennis Dunaway.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 17th, at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel, Liberty, with Rev. Dana Hadden of Hanna’s Creek Church officiating. Burial will follow in West Point Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 12:00 noon Monday until time of service where memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
