Helen Mae Jones, 96, of West Lafayette and formerly of Fayette County, died Sunday evening, February 28, 2016 at Cumberland Pointe Health Campus.
Helen was born in Springfield Township, Franklin County, on October 30, 1919 to Homer T. and Sara Estel Muir Moody and graduated in 1937 with honors from Springfield High School. Helen also attended one year Nurses Training at Cincinnati Methodist Hospital. On March 18, 1939 in Brookville, she married Floyd M. Jones, who died February 1, 1977. Helen was a member of the Democratic Women, the Senior Citizen Board, the Library Board and Friends of the Library. She was also a 4-H Leader for thirty years. In her leisure time, Helen enjoyed quilt making and cake decorating. She also enjoyed playing the piano and the organ.
Helen is survived by her children and their spouses: Judie Clock and Joe of Economy, Indiana; Cheryl Jackson and Gilbert; Donna Farler and Jim, all of Connersville; Jan Weldin and John of Plano, Texas; her brother: Larry Moody and his wife, Helen, of Hamilton, Ohio; ten grandchildren; twenty-five great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband of 37 years, Helen is preceded in death by her daughter: Juanita J. Glass, her siblings: Pearl Smith, Robert Moody and William Moody.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Brookville. Friends may visit at the funeral home Thursday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. where memorial contributions may be made to the Fayette County Public Library.
