Ima L. Malkin, 99, long time Fayette County resident, died Thursday afternoon, June 19, 2014, at Sterling House of Richmond.
Ima was born in Clinton County, Kentucky, August 20, 1914 to John and Ora Glidewell Madison. She grew up on a farm near Bentonville and attended Bentonville schools. Ima moved to Indianapolis and was employed at Wasson’s Department Store in the cosmetic department. She had resided in the former McFarlan home on Eighth Street and used talents she acquired studying interior design in New York to make her home a showplace. Ima was well known as a fine cook and exceptional hostess with a unique style. She was an avid golfer and enjoyed boating and playing bridge. She was fun loving and always had a positive attitude. Ima had traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Connersville Country Club, ADOU and the Connersville Elks. Ima often spoke of the wonderful life she had enjoyed and was grateful for her many friends and life experiences.
Ima is survived by two sisters: Thelma C. Geise of Fayette County and Golda Colvin of Roseville, California; three nieces: Brenda Stout and Cheryl Johnson, both of Connersville; Shirley Guttry of South Lake Tahoe, California; several great, great-great and great-great-great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Ima was preceded in death by her husband, Emanuel “Manny” Malkin and a brother: Estil Madison.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, with Chaplain Brad Smith of Premier Hospice, officiating. Interment will follow in Dale Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 1 p.m. Wednesday until the time of service.
