Jacqueline S. Bustillos, 92, of Connersville, died Monday, January 21, 2019, at her residence.
“Jackie” was born in Ghent, Belgium on June 8, 1926, to Theophiel and Emmerance DeMeyer DeVos and attended school there. She had worked as a nanny in Potsdam Babelsberg, East Berlin during the war for Ernst Bloch and his wife, caring for their two sons and two girls. Mr. Block would later be credited with saving over 20,000 Jewish people from the Holocaust. Jackie met her husband, Albert S. “Teeny” Bustillos while he was stationed in Belgium with the U.S. Army following the war. She immigrated to the United States in 1948 and was married October 12, 1948, in Colton, California. They moved to Connersville in 1949 where Jackie was employed at Elliott-Hood Drug Store. She also worked at Custom Extrusions and Grandview Pharmacy, retiring in 1983. As a devout member of St. Gabriel Church, Jackie had served as Eucharistic Minister, bereavement committee member, Daughters of Isabella member and vice president for many years of St. Ann’s Altar and Rosary Society. She had volunteered at Fayette Memorial Hospital and as the cook at the Union Hall for over thirty years.
Jackie is survived by several nieces, nephews, God-children, her church family and many friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, and four sisters: Paula, Julia and Leontina DeVos, and Coralie Clerick.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 29, 2019, at St. Gabriel Church with Reverend Dustin Boehm officiating. Entombment will follow in the Shrine of Memories Mausoleum. There will be no public visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Gabriel Church or to the school.
