James E. Alexander

James E. “Jim” Alexander, 89, formerly of Liberty, IN, died Thursday, November 1, 2012 at HPH Hospice in New Port Richey, Florida. Jim was born January 20, 1923 in Estill County, Kentucky to Joseph C. and Beulah Portwood Alexander. He attended Alexander School in Estill County. On June 7, 1947, Jim married the former Beulah Marie Hurst. Jim was a member of the American Legion Post 122, Liberty and had worked at Wayne Works in Richmond. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and was an avid carpenter making several yard decorations. Jim is survived by his children and their spouses: Buddy Carrell and Karen of Liberty and Lisa Weeks and Steve of Hudson, Florida; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Jim is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 60 years; brother: William Alexander; sister: Mae Sage. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 6, 2012 Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel, Liberty, IN. Interment will follow in West Point Cemetery, Liberty. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Monday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. where memorial contributions may be made to the HPH Hospice.
