James Hershel Moore, 84, of Connersville, died Monday evening, March 31, 2014, at his residence.
Herschel was born in Salt Rock, Jackson County, Kentucky, July 29, 1929, the third of five children of Elias and Bertha Hobbs Moore. On July 28, 1951, he was married in McKee, Kentucky to the former Thelma Isaacs and they moved to Connersville in 1955. Hershel was employed at McQuay-Norris for over 23 years and had worked at several scrap yards including Cohen Brothers and Joseph’s Scrap Yard. Most recently, he had operated a private trash route six days a week and enjoyed visiting with his customers.
Hershel is survived his wife of 62 years, 8 months and 3 days and was blessed with two children: Carlene Moore and her fiancé, Justin Wagner; James Arlington Moore, all of Connersville; many nieces and nephews. He loved his family beyond measure.
In addition to his parents, Hershel was preceded in death by his brothers: Jewell, Lester, William Howard and Hearl D. Moore; nieces: Rhonda Moore and Rachel Dawn Jones; nephews: Deron Paul, Eugene Moore and Jason Isaacs.
Hershel gave his life to the Lord March 16, 1975 and was baptized June 15, 1975. He was known to many as “Uncle Hershel” and treated others the way he wanted to be treated. He was a kind, caring man who never got in a hurry. He often played the guitar and sang the old songs so many came to love. Hershel enjoyed attending church and was a member and trustee of the Unity Holiness House of Prayer. He loved being with his family and enjoyed fishing. His sense of humor, gentle smile and nature will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at the Unity Holiness House of Prayer, 211 East Fourth Street, Connersville, with Brother Raleigh Coffey officiating. Interment will follow in Columbia Cemetery. Friends may visit at the church from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
