Jean L. Montgomery, 93, of DeMotte and formerly of Liberty, died Wednesday, September 26, 2012, at Porter Regional Hospital, Valparaiso.
Jean was born May 29, 1919 in Richmond to Harold and Gladys Stevens Clements. In 1938, she graduated from Morton High School in Wayne County and was employed at her father’s business, Clements Insurance in Richmond. Jean had also worked at Knollenberg’s Department Store for a short time. On June 2, 1940, she was married in Richmond to Hugh J. Montgomery, who died May 2, 2005. She enjoyed playing cards and making crafts. She was a member of Salem Friends Meeting and had been active in the activities there as well as her church in Florida. Jean was a classy, lovely lady that always had a smile. She never met a stranger and made friends everywhere she went.
Jean is survived by her children and their spouses: Jan Montgomery and Marcia of Liberty; Judy Green and Scott of DeMotte; three grandchildren: Jan Montgomery, Jr. of Connersville; Erin Green Trexler and her husband, Brian of Saratoga, Pennsylvania; Miranda Green of DeMotte; two great-grandchildren: Erica Montgomery and Cohen Trexler; her cousin: Debbie Dean of Centerville; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband of 65 years, Jean was preceded in death by a sister: Joan Pentecost.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel, Liberty, with Pastor Paul Ayers of Salem Friends Meeting, officiating. Entombment will follow in West Point Mausoleum, Liberty. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the service time where memorial contributions may be made to the Salem Friends Meeting or to the American Cancer Society.
