Jeffrey Alan Long, 66, of Westfield, died Saturday evening, September 22, 2012, at St. Vincent Hospice, Indianapolis. Jeff was born July 13, 1946 in Rushville, the eldest of seven children of Robert Darrel and Betty June Bush Long. In 1964, he graduated from Rushville High School and was a 1966 graduate of DeVry Technical Institute, Chicago, with a degree in electronics. On April 23, 1966, he was married in Rushville to the former Sharon L. Kennedy. Jeff had been employed as a field technician with American Hospital Supply, Scientific Products and retired from Siemens. He was a member of the Church at the Crossing, Indianapolis. Throughout his life, Jeff remained sensitive to the needs of others. He possessed a quality of creativity that was displayed in his artistic abilities and as encouragement to others. He was a big kid at heart, sharing gifts with children at church, flying kites on the beach or running remote controlled cars. He loved to travel with his family and friends to the beach, on cruises and to area car shows with his ’67 Chevelle SS convertible. Jeff and Sharon were blessed with a group of friends known as “The Gang” that often combined to accomplish whatever needs one might have. Jeff is survived by his wife of 46 years; his children and their spouses: Robin Michell Leach and Doug of Sacramento, California; Greg Alan Long and Amy of Zionsville; his grandchildren: Lucy Long, Grant, Anastasia, Isaac, Eli and Victoria Leach; a great-granddaughter: Ella Joy; his siblings and their spouses: John M. Lauderdale, Florida; many nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to his parents, Jeff was preceded in death by his brother: Jay F. Long; and his grandparents, including Milton and Esther Long.
