John L. Jones, 84, of Indianapolis, died Tuesday evening, December 10, 2013, at Community Hospital North, Indianapolis.
A Brookville native, John was born March 10, 1929 to John and Fannie Parker Jones. He attended Connersville Junior and Senior High Schools. In 1946, he entered the U.S. Navy and retired as a Senior Chief following 22 years of service. His guitar was his constant companion during his Navy deployments throughout the world. On October 10, 1955, he was married in Lawrenceburg to the former Betty J. Clark who died August 3, 2010. John was a former member of the Moose, Eagles, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, 40 et 8 and coached Little League Baseball for many years. John enjoyed fishing and was a passionate tomato gardener. For over 20 years, he was employed at the Connersville Employment Office.
John is survived by his son and daughter-in-law: Carey Jones and Michelle of Noblesville; his grandchildren: Joshua Adam and Meghan Kendall Jones’ several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife of nearly 55 years, John was preceded in death by eight siblings: Stanley, Robert, Charles and Grant Jones; Maude Friedman, Virginia Campbell, Thelma Tincher and Minnie VanAusdahl.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, followed by military honors conducted by the Fayette County Veterans Council. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday where memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
