Jon Butcher, 47, of Seymour, Illinois and former Connersville resident, died Friday, September 23, 2011, at his residence.
A Connersville native, Jon was born November 1, 1963 to Robert J. and Mary Helen Hinners Butcher. He was a 1982 graduate of Connersville High School and entered the U.S Air Force in August of 1982. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and was a veteran of Desert Storm. His military decorations included the Air Force Commendation Medal. On February 22, 1986, he was married in Connersville to the former Dawn P. Jackson of Rising Sun. Jon was a certified electrician and owned and operated Butcher’s Electrical Service. He was a hardworker and often donated his services, most recently to “Homes for Our Troops.” Jon was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding snow mobiles and all terrain vehicles, and NASCAR, especially Jimmie Johnson. His dogs, Chloe and Goliath were his close companions.
Jon is survived by his wife, Dawn Butcher; three children: Brittany Jo Waddell and her husband, Jimmy of Connersville, Brandon S. Butcher and Cassie P. Butcher, both of Seymour, Illinois; his mother and step-father: Mary Helen and Richard Hankins of Connersville; two brothers: Timothy S. Butcher and his wife, Jamie of Morristown and Matthew S. Butcher and his fiancé, Cassandra Bishop of Connersville; two step-grandchildren: Devin and Kendal Waddell, several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Jon is preceded in death by his father, his maternal grandparents: Wilbur and Sylvia Hinners and his paternal grandparents: James R. and Mary Jo Butcher.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, with Rev. Gene Ott of Bethany Lutheran Church, officiating Interment will follow in Dale Cemetery with military graveside services conducted by the Fayette County Veterans Council. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. A memorial service will be held at Jon’s home in Seymour, Illinois on Friday September 30 at 5 p.m.. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fayette County or Champaign County, Illinois Humane Society or to the Honor Flight Program which Jon had volunteered that assists WWII veterans to travel to Washington, D.C. to visit the WWII Memorial.
