Larry G. English, 84, of Connersville, died Monday morning, November 28, 2011, in Connersville.
Larry was born in Carter County, Kentucky, December 28, 1926 to William and Leona Farmer English and moved with his family to the Columbia community. He attended Fayette County schools and enlisted as a U.S. Marine in 1944. Larry served as a corporal during the WW II occupation of China and Japan. On September 23, 1949, he was married in Connersville to the former Marilyn Rose Fielding. They owned and operated Ye Olde English Flower Shoppe at 7th and Grand for over 35 years. Larry’s creativity and love of arranging flowers was most evident in his signature arrangements and the beautiful floral exhibits that adorned his large display windows. He had previously been employed at American Kitchens and later, Clark’s Flowers. Larry was a member of the First United Methodist Church and B.P.O. Elks, #379. He was an avid golfer as a former member of the Connersville Country Club.
Larry is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law: Amy R. McMillan and Jim of near Glenwood, J. Beth Fuller and Rod of Connersville; four grandchildren: Andrew Riley and Abigail Reid Fuller, Olivia Claire and Lauren Elizabeth McMillan; a niece: Dawn Washam of Connersville; several nephews; his companion: Ellen Siler and her daughter, Lauren Allard, both of Connersville; and many friends.
In addition to his parents, Larry is preceded in death by his wife of over 44 years, two sisters: Irene Burge and Opal Colley; two brothers: Tom and Jim English; a niece: Talma Frank; and a nephew, Bill Colley.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, with Rev. Alan Terlep of Central Christian Church officiating. Interment will follow in Dale Cemetery with military honors by the Fayette County Veterans Council. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday where memorial contributions may be made to the Fayette County Cancer Society or to the First United Methodist Church.
