Lester Powell, Jr., 63, of Connersville, died Monday, October 24, 2011, at his residence.
A Connersville native, Lester was born February 13, 1948 to Lester Sr. and Helen Ash Powell. Lester grew up in east Connersville and attended Connersville High School. Lester served in the United States Army during the Viet Nam War in the artillery unit attaining the rank of E4. Motorcycles were a passion of Lester’s life. He owned and operated the JR Cycle Shop that specialized in Harley Davidson Motorcycles. Lester had also worked for Powell Pest Control and D & M.
Survivors include his wife: the former Kathy Maggard whom he married October 6, 2011; aunts: Pat Yards, Phyllis Pflum, and Faye Hurst; uncles: Jim Ash, Ermon Powell, Raymond Powell, and Ralph Powell, several cousins and friends.
Preceeding him in death are his parents and grandparents.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, with Pastor Mal Gibson of First Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Dale Cemetery where military graveside services will be conducted by the Fayette County Veterans Council. Friends may visit at the funeral home Thursday from 5 until 8 p.m., where memorial contributions may be made to Fayette County Cancer Society.
