Lois M. George, 93, of Connersville died Tuesday night, January 21, 2014, with her family at her bedside.
She was born in Shelbyville January 16, 1921 to Ernest and Artie Deloris Treon Cushing and attended Connersville area schools. On December 24, 1948, she was married at the McFarlan Hotel in Connersville to Carl George who died March 24, 1985. Lois was a member of East Side United Methodist and was an active supporter of the March of Dimes. For nine years, she was a Big Sister with Fayette County Big Brothers and Sisters and was named Big Sister of the Year. She enjoyed her great-grandchildren, fishing, yard work, crocheting and knitting. Lois had been a caregiver for most of her adult life.
Lois is survived by her son: Richard Brown and wife, Roberta; her daughter: Jackie Church and husband, Kenneth, all of Connersville; step-daughter: Mary Rosalie Wical of Miamisburg, Ohio; daughter-in-law: Phyllis Brown of Connersville; her grandchildren and their spouses: Rodney Brown and Lynn, Deborah Sparks, Craig Brown, Bobby Brown, Jennifer Brannon and Chris, Geoff Church, Jami Venable and Jerry, Jeremiah Church; step-grandchildren: Kevin Wical, Elaine Beegle, Paula Roy; fifteen great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren, several step-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband of 37 years, Lois was preceded in death by her first husband: Finley Brown; son; Ernest Robert “Bob” Brown; daughter: Deloris Jeanine George; grandson: Mark Brown; five brothers: Ernest Francis, Jesse Claude, Carl Edward and Allan Corbet Cushing, Gilbert Foch; sister: Emma Jean Johnson; companion: Marion Theodore Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, at Showalter-Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, with Rev. Malcolm B. Greene of the East Side United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Dale Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday where memorial contributions may be given to the Fayette County Senior Center or East Side United Methodist Church.
