Louise Stratton

Louise Stratton, 93, of Connersville passed away Thursday, December 27, 2012 at Caroleton Manor Nursing Home in Connersville. Louise was born June 27, 1919 in Dayton, Tennessee to Floyd and Elizabeth Gillette Gravitt. She retired from the Indiana State Police Department after 31 and a half years of service as secretary of the Connersville post. During her employment, she received numerous honors and awards, including the Sagamore of the Wabash. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star #346, Connersville and received her 50 year award in 2001. She was also a member of the Pioneers of The Indiana State Police, Retired Indiana Public Employee’s Association and The International Library of Poetry. Her poems were published in numerous books and she received many Editor’s Choice Awards. Some of her poems were published by a publishing company in London. She was also an avid pet lover and owner. Louise is survived by nieces and nephews, including: Edward Knight and his wife, Rosie of Richmond; James Knight and his wife, Jo Ann of Aurora; Jennings Knight and his wife, Darlene of Connersville; Betty Nester of Houston, Texas; Jerry Knight and his wife, Cynthia of Florida; Judy Brunsman of Milton. In addition to her parents; Louise was preceded in death by a sister: Mrs. Betty Knight and a brother: Walter Gravitt. The Order of the Eastern Star #346, Connersville, will conduct memorial services at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, followed by funeral services. Interment will be in Dale Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home Wednesday from 12 to 2 p.m. where memorial contributions may be made to the Fayette County Humane Society.
