Lynn K. Goodner, Jr. 58, of Connersville, died Sunday afternoon, November 13, 2011, at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis.
Lynn was born in Waco, Texas, March 10, 1953, to Lynn K., Sr. and Iris Parson Goodner. His father had a career in the military and Lynn grew up residing in many different locations including Italy at the age of five. In 1971, he graduated from Catoctin High School in Thurmont, Maryland. From 1971 to 1979, Lynn served in the U.S. Army as a psychiatric specialist. While serving at Ft. Knox, Kentucky, he married the former Rita L. DeMoss in New Albany on March 9, 1974. Lynn was a graduate of the Indiana State Law Enforcement Academy and served as a Brookville City Police Officer for four years. For 24 years, he was a letter carrier at the Brookville Post Office. Lynn was an avid reader and enjoyed golf. He was an accomplished artist working in ceramics, pastels and watercolors. Lynn was always eager to learn as a student at the Community Education Coalition and at Indiana University East where he was named the 1988 History Student of the Year. He was a member of Harmony Lodge #11, F. & A.M., Brookville, the Disabled American Veterans, American Legion, the Whitewater Valley Art Association and was honored as a Kentucky Colonel.
Lynn is survived by his wife of 37 years; two sons: Lynn K. Goodner III and his companion, Tammy Kahre of Avon; Todd E. Goodner and his fiancé, Elizabeth Gates of Plainfield; a sister: Ella Smith and her husband, Dennis of West Columbia, Texas; several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to his parents, Lynn is preceded in death by his parents-in-law: Nolan and Elizabeth DeMoss and a sister-in-law: Amy Horn.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, with Rev. Sue Cartee of Liberty, officiating. Interment will follow in Lick Creek Cemetery with military honors by the Fayette County Veterans Council. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday where memorial contributions may be made to the Whitewater Valley Art Association or to the Fayette County Friends of the Library.
