Madeline Sparks, 93, of Connersville died Saturday evening, June 20, 2015 at Heritage House of Connersville.
Madeline was born in Knox County, Kentucky to Robert and Maude Mills Garland both of whom preceded her in death. When she was five years of age, the family moved to Connersville where she grew up. At the age of ten, she was baptized at Central Christian Church. Following graduation from Connersville High School in 1939, she was employed at McQuay-Norris Manufacturing Company. On September 20, 1941, Madeline was married in Connersville to Winvil Sparks, who died August 18, 1990. She worked for a period of time in the office at the Naval Station at St. Simons Island, Georgia where Winvil was stationed during WWII. Her primary years of employment were with the Fayette County School Corporation where she worked for 24 years at the high school. Madeline was a member of the Minerva Club and Order of Eastern Star, # 346. She was an avid card player and enjoyed traveling
Madeline is survived by her daughters: Ruth Taybos of Connersville; Carol Sparks Drake and her husband, Tom of Whitestown; her granddaughters: Jennifer McClendon and her husband, Martin of Racine, Wisconsin; Sarah Halloran and her husband Jonathan of Chicago, Illinois; her great grandchildren: Arabella and Horatio McClendon; Jonah, Henry and Phoebe Halloran; her sister: Evelyn Harrison of Erlanger, Kentucky; her nephew: Robert Harrison of Florence, Kentucky.
Graveside services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Dale Cemetery with Rev. Michael Sinclair of Central Christian Church officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Central Christian Church, P.O. Box 60, Connersville.
